Announcements

Send a message to everyone in a space at once.

An announcement is a short message pushed to everyone in a space. Only the owner and admins can send one - see Roles in a space.

Sending one

Open the space, tap the Settings button on it, then Announcements. Type your message and send.

The first line is written for you and cannot be changed:

📢 Announcement from your space's name

That is deliberate. Everyone receiving it can see at a glance which space it came from, and nobody can write a message that pretends to be from somewhere else. The second line is yours - up to 140 characters, emoji included.

Who gets it

Everyone in the space except you. There is no way to send to only some members; if that is what you need, a ping to one person is the better tool.

Announcements ignore quiet hours

An announcement arrives even during the space's quiet hours, and even for members who have turned other notifications off in their own settings.

This works the way pings do, and for the same reason: somebody has decided to tell the space something right now. Please treat it that way. If it can wait until morning, it is probably not an announcement.

One every fifteen minutes

A space can send one announcement every fifteen minutes, whoever sends it. If there are three admins, that is still one announcement every fifteen minutes between them, not three.

Trying to send sooner tells you how long is left.

Everyone can see what was sent

The announcement list shows every announcement, who sent it and when, to every member of the space - not only to admins. Anyone who dismissed the notification can read it there, and anyone sending one is doing so in front of the people receiving it.

Announcements cannot be edited or deleted once sent.
