What Circl keeps, and for how long

Retention, in plain terms.

Your position

Your current position is stored so the map can show it, and is overwritten each time you move. A limited recent history is also kept, and older entries are removed automatically rather than accumulating forever.

Pings

Deleted the moment they are read. Unread ones are cleared after 60 days. There is no ping history, by design. See Pings.

Places and moments

Kept for as long as the space keeps them. Deleting a place or a moment removes it for everyone.

Activity

Recent activity only. The feed is not a permanent record. See The activity feed.

Journeys and trips

Kept, and included if you ask for a copy of your data. See Journeys and trips.

When you leave a space

You come off the map immediately. Places and moments you added stay with the space, because they belong to the group rather than to you.

When you delete your account

There is a 30 day window in which signing back in undoes it. After that the account and its data are removed. See Deleting your account.
