Deleting your account

How to delete, what the 30 days mean, and what survives.

Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to type DELETE to confirm, because this is not something to do by accident.

The 30 days

Deleting marks your account for removal and signs you out. Nothing is erased immediately.

If you sign in again within 30 days, the deletion is cancelled automatically and your account carries on as before. You do not need to contact anyone.

After 30 days your account is permanently removed: your profile, location history, pings, reactions, moments you created, and your username, which is released for anyone to use.

What does not disappear

Activity in shared spaces is anonymised rather than deleted. It shows as "Deleted user". This is deliberate: erasing it outright would tear holes in other people's history of evenings they were also at.
