Sharing your location

What Circl needs, why it asks for it, and how to stop.

Circl asks for location permission because a map with nobody on it is not much use. What matters is which permission you give.

Always vs While Using

• While Using the App shows your location only while Circl is open. Arrival

and departure alerts will not work.

• Always lets Circl update your position in the background, which is what

makes places and arrival alerts work at all.

Battery use is modest either way: Circl updates on meaningful movement rather than on a timer, and sends a heartbeat roughly every five minutes when you are still.

Stopping

You can stop sharing at any time from Settings. Everyone in your spaces can see that you have stopped, Circl will not pretend you are somewhere you are not, and it will not quietly keep sharing after you have said no.
