The app says it is under maintenance

What that screen means and what to do.

Occasionally Circl shows a maintenance screen instead of the map. It means we have deliberately taken the app offline for a short period.

What is happening

Maintenance is switched on by us, on purpose. It is not a fault on your phone, and reinstalling will not clear it.

What to do

Wait. The app checks continuously and returns to normal on its own as soon as maintenance ends, with nothing to restart or reopen.

What happens to your data

Nothing. Maintenance stops the app being used; it does not remove anything. Your spaces, places and moments are exactly as you left them.

Location during maintenance

Assume nothing is being shared and nobody can see where you are. If somebody is relying on seeing your position, tell them another way.

If it lasts a long time

Check status.circlapp.org, which is updated independently of the app and says what is going on.
